Where is the Great South Basin?

The biggest news in Southland today is the contracts awarded to two energy companies to drill for oil and gas in the Great South Basin. But for those of us who don't know where this 'big basin' is, I found this very handy map. The basin covers 100,000 sq kilometers. I wonder if any equipment or structures they plan to build will be visible from the mainland coast and Rakiura. What we're willing to do for our cars! Of course on the other hand, it does mean jobs and that's so important to Invercargill. Click on the image to enlarge.
