The ever-widening river

The Aparima River looks very wide today. Here are a few pics taken south of the town. The bottom picture shows the Bright Wood Mill in the upper left. I've read that in the old days, before there were any buildings in Otautau (about 1850s-60s), it was so wet and swampy that when it did flood, the whole area was just like a lake.
